Improve Your Scrum with Kanban

With much of the U.S. enduring a heat wave, we have ice cream on our minds. Do you know how to make good ice cream even better? Add delicious mix-ins!

You can also take Scrum from good to superb by mixing in Kanban concepts!

Join Jill Stott for “How to Mix in Kanban Concepts to Make Scrum Better” at the 2022 Kanban Global Summit.

You’ll learn how to add Kanban principles and practices to Scrum to simplify processes, improve throughput, shrink lead times, improve team culture, and increase value – without changing the Scrum framework elements.

Register for KGS22 and see first-hand, the positive impacts (via metrics) of mixing in Kanban concepts to make Scrum better. We’ll see you in San Diego in August!

“I didn’t know you could do that with Kanban!”

For many of us, our first exposure to Kanban boards is a simple “todo-doing-done” task board used by an IT software development team. This workshop with Craeg Strong is designed to help open our eyes to see how much more Kanban has to offer!

Watch the video above to hear more directly from Craeg, and then select the workshop of your choice during the registration process.

Students must have achieved the Kanban Management Professional (KMP) credential and be able to present a Kanban case study. Attending the TTT course does not guarantee approval. Approved attendees may become AKTs licensed by Kanban University to teach one or more of the KU foundation courses: Team Kanban Practitioner, Kanban System Design, and Kanban Systems Improvement.

If you don’t find a class that fits your availability, please message us at KU@kanban.university. We collect interest and have the ability to build a class into the schedule that may suit your needs.

What’s Your Return on Investment of Kanban?

Tuesday, August 23, 2022
5:00 – 6:00 PM
Kanban Global Summit
San Diego, California, USA

Have you ever been asked for a business case for implementing Kanban in your organization?

This talk from Martin Aziz, Principal Consultant at SquirrelNorth, looks at both sides of the equation: what business gains you should expect in the short, medium and long term, as well as the optimal implementation strategy for kanbanizing your organization.

By attending, you’ll understand how Kanban can net your organization large and sustained returns while keeping investment levels much lower than a typical agile transformation.

Modern Military Tactics and All Forms of Lean

Modern Military Tactics and All Forms of Lean: Full-Day Workshop with Chet Richards

Reserve your space by registering now as there is *limited capacity* for this workshop.

Wednesday, August 24
8:45 AM – 4:45 PM
Kanban Global Summit
San Diego, California, USA

Your Kanban is lean and your software is Agile. Great! Now what? How do you use these internal capabilities to win in the external marketplace? For one answer, you might look to another highly competitive arena — the military.

Despite what common sense might tell you, it is not unusual for the best equipped or largest army to fail to perform as expected against smaller or lower tech opponents. One example is currently happening in Ukraine. It’s pretty common in the commercial world, too, where today’s tech power house is tomorrow’s fading memory.

Chet Richards, a close associate of the late Colonel John R. Boyd, will present a full-day workshop at the Kanban Global Summit to introduce the common foundation that underlies both modern military tactics and all forms of lean.

“Such ideas as agility, shaping the mind of the enemy, harmony among all levels, and perhaps most important of all, promoting—not just exploiting or responding to—uncertainty and disorder, were all either invented, re-discovered or inspired by Boyd.”

Dutch fighter pilot

Art of Agile Development Book Club: Forecasting & Roadmaps with Todd Little

On Friday, June 3 at 8 a.m. Pacific Time, Todd Little, Chairman of Kanban University, joins James Shore for an online discussion inspired by the new edition of Shore’s book, The Art of Agile Development. “When will you be done?” It’s a question programmers have come to dread. Software development has so many details, it’s impossible to know exactly what’s left to do, let alone how long it will take. Yet stakeholders have a genuine need to know. Forecasting and roadmaps are ways to provide them with what they need, and the focus of this book club session.

Priority Lists Don’t Work

Priority lists don’t work and Prince Harry has helped us figure that out. Watch a recent talk from Martin Aziz at Flow Conference to find out why and what you should do instead. He covers the concepts of Good Options, Commitment, Class of Service, and Capacity Allocation as ways to finally retire the priority list for good.
