Class Title: Systems Thinking Approach to Introducing Kanban (STATIK) Workshop

During this one-day interactive workshop, you will learn how to design a Kanban system using the Systems Thinking Approach to Introducing Kanban (STATIK). The workshop helps participants understand sources of dissatisfaction, model workflows, identify work item types, define classes of service, and create policies that support effective flow management.

The workshop provides a practical approach to designing Kanban systems from the ground up. Participants will learn how to analyze existing ways of working, model workflows, and design boards, tickets, and policies that accurately represent real work and support better decision-making.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand STATIK, its purpose, and benefits.
  • Understand the purpose of each STATIK step covered in the workshop.
  • Discover classes of service and their corresponding policies for your own Kanban systems.
  • Understand what information should appear on a Kanban ticket and why.
  • Design tickets that help workers make effective pull decisions.
  • Recognize common patterns for modelling non-sequential work, different work types, blockers, and other workflow situations.
  • Apply suitable patterns to design a Kanban board that closely models workflow, work item types, and other relevant elements.
  • Construct a Kanban system based on information gathered during the workshop.
  • Address and solve sources of dissatisfaction through improved Kanban system design.

Certificate issued: Standard certificate of completion.

Prerequisites: None.

Format: The workshop combines presentation, discussion, collaborative design activities, and hands-on exercises.
